I've been trying to get Vina88 over to this forum to answer other questions about accessories through subtle hints, but now that Vina is asking about rooting, I thought it best to just directly bring them over. Wink

Even with Windows Vista you still have to set up a virtual Linux configuration. No one has found a way to mount as ext4 on Windows as of right now.

Vbox won't work. Vmware will tho. Or do a wubi install. Those are the 2 easiest methods. Make sure u do a 32 bit install of ubuntu no matter what method u pick, or else u will have some trouble

Just search Ubuntu wubi on Google. Once you download it you can install straight through Windows and it will set up your system to dual boot. It's very easy.

    Is this helpful?

    http://linux.about.com/od/dist/gr/dstwubi.htm

    Step-by-step instructions:

    1. Using a web browser, go to wubi-installer.org
    2. Click on the "Download (Beta)" button and download the latest Wubi...exe program to a convenient folder
    3. Double click on the file Wubi...exe to run the installer
    4. When prompted, enter a username and password and optionally a few other settings
    5. When prompted, reboot your computer and wait for Ubuntu to finish installing
    6. Run Linux by rebooting and choosing Ubuntu (use arrow keys to select)
    7. Run MS Windows by rebooting and choosing Windows (use arrow keys to select)
    8. You can un-install Ubuntu Linux just like any other Windows application:
    1. Boot into MS Windows
    2. Open the control panel
    3. Select "Add or Remove Programs"
    4. Select Wubi and uninstall it
    5. Alternatively, you can use the un-installer C:\wubi\uninstaller.exe

(my apologies if it is not even on topic, I'm not literate in tech stuff)

    Cheers!

    - Bete

ETA: Good luck on the root! *fingers crossed*

    Hi Vina88!

So glad to see you made it here. Very Happy

I've quoted a bit of what has been said in this thread about using linux and Ubuntu. Win7 won't work:

Admin wrote:Vbox won't work. Vmware will tho. Or do a wubi install. Those are the 2 easiest methods. Make sure u do a 32 bit install of ubuntu no matter what method u pick, or else u will have some trouble
