    Xoom - 3.1 Empty Xoom - 3.1

Post by Nomad Fri Jun 24, 2011 6:01 pm

I finally got my Xoom back from a friend that I had loaned it to and am truly bummed. I originally felt that the G-Slate was the better machine and I gave up the Xoom after picking up the G-Slate (especially with the 3D ecosystem - you can take video on the Xoom and move it to either the 3D LG phone or the Evo 3D and it plays back FLAWLESSLY). But - now I am thinking about ditching the G-Slate.

Over the past several weeks of playing with the G-Slate, I find the 3D portion less entertaining (maybe because I don't carry one of the 3D devices as my daily device) -- AND to make matters worse, while the Xoom was just as laggy as the G-Slate, the Xoom is freakishly fast now. Instantaneous resume and the lock widget is lighting fast at following your finger. The swipes between screens are amazing.

I am just saying that I may end up shelving the G-Slate until the thing gets the 3.1 update....

I hear ya...the G-Slate is definetely starting to frustrate me. If it got the updates it deserves I am positive it would be a much better device.

You should play with a Xoom and compare the 2. It is a totally new device with the 3.1 update.

I would love to be able to have both, but money is tight for a little bit. I may hold out for the Kal El quad core tablets. I believe the Xoom 2 is supposed to be the processors debut device although I could be wrong.

I am fortunate that my job allows me to buy all of these devices for testing purposes. I would be livid if I had paid out of pocket for the g-slate. This was after becoming their biggest fan boy after playing with both the hone and the tablt at mobile world congress in Barcelona, back in February.

Btw. The 3.2 update only widens the gap...

Did you already get rid of the G-Slate? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love it. The only issue I have is LG. Hopefully, after the Slate is over-clocked to 1.5Ghz we will see a nice speed increase. The kernel should be out in a day or two btw. Anyway, I do agree the 3D feature is kind of a gimmick, but everything else has great potential. If you didn't know we have some devs working on the Slate now so I wouldn't be surprised if we had a 3.2 ROM in the future which would make it a beast. 3.2 + OC kernel = SPEED and HAPPINESS! Very Happy

Honestly, I didn't get rid of it, but it has been sitting in a drawer for about a week plus now. I have been really disappointed in LG over the whole thing. Oh well, I am typing this on the xoom now! I love it.

I happen to prefer the 8.9" screen, and the portability of the device. I guess everyone has different tastes. The funny thing is that I was originally going to get a Xoom but when I saw that T-Mobile released the G-Slate I couldn't turn it down. I like using the 4G for when I'm traveling and I have it set up just the way I like it. I guess I'm really just relying on the dev community right now to bring us some nice goodies, then I believe the G-Slate will rise up again.

I prefer the g-slate size and form factor to the xoom. But the lag makes the g:-) -slate intolersble. I will switch back after the update.

Ha. I have more devices than fit into a room. I get almost every hone released in north America 2 to 3 months before they release, for development and testing purposes.

Unfortunately, most are kept under lock and key. Sorry mate.
